FAQ

Is there an app that turns animals into Pokémon-style cards?

Yes: dobudex, free to try on iPhone and Android. Scan an animal and the app tells you what it is, then draws it as a unique card with six game stats, a signature trait, a biology fact and a rarity.

Is it just a filter over my photo?

No. The app first identifies the species, then draws the animal new from your scan. The card carries real data too: the scientific name, six stats tuned to the species, a signature trait, a biology fact and a rarity.

Does it work on insects and other small animals?

Yes. Small animals are identified at species level too: the zebra jumping spider on this page was a few millimetres long. An identification can be wrong, so check a surprising one.

Can I scan animals at the zoo or on a farm?

Yes. Every animal counts, wild or not. The okapi on this page was scanned at the zoo, and it is one of the rarest cards here.

What do the rarities mean?

Each species has a rarity, from Common through Uncommon and Rare to Epic and Legendary, and each rarity has its own card frame. Rarity can change as the community’s collections grow.

Is dobudex free?

It is free to try. New players get five scans, then five more after Apple or Google sign-in. Explorer includes up to 100 scans a month; all game features are also available free.

I want to scan Pokémon trading cards. Is this that?

No. dobudex turns live animals into new cards; it doesn’t recognise Pokémon TCG cards. For collection tracking or card prices, look for a TCG card scanner instead.

Is dobudex affiliated with Pokémon or Nintendo?

No. “Pokémon-style” describes what the cards feel like, nothing more. dobudex is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo, Creatures, or GAME FREAK.
