What’s on an animal card?

  1. Species and rarity Identified to species level, with the rarity tier printed in the header.
  2. Your animal, drawn The animal you scanned, drawn just for your card.
  3. Scientific name The species’ Latin name, on the plaque below the artwork.
  4. A signature trait An ability-style tag, like Urban Scavenger Instinct.
  5. Six game stats HP, PWR, DEF, MOB, INT and STL are game values for the species.
  6. Species fact A short fact about the animal, beneath its stats.
  7. Your capture credit Who caught it and when — your name, on the card.

Card rarity

Each tier has its own frame. Rarity can change as the community’s collections grow. These cards show four of the frame styles.

FAQ

Is there a real-life Pokédex app for animals?

Yes. dobudex is an animal collecting app for iPhone and Android. Scan an animal and the app identifies it, then gives you a unique card with its species name, game stats and a signature trait.

Is there a real Pokédex you can buy?

Yes, as a toy. Japanese toy maker Takara Tomy makes handheld Pokédex toys called Smartphone Rotom, sold in Japan. On the 2024 Smartphone Rotom Pad you find about 800 Pokémon on an in-game map and register them. These toys do not identify real animals. dobudex does: scan an animal with your phone, the app identifies the species and gives you a unique card for your Dex.

Can I scan my cat or dog?

Yes. Pets count, along with wildlife such as birds, insects and reptiles. Identification is at species level, so a dog is recorded as Domestic Dog rather than a breed.

How accurate is the animal identification?

dobudex uses AI to suggest a species. An identification can be wrong, even when the app reports high confidence. Check an expert source when the identification matters. Failed identifications are refunded.

Is dobudex free?

It is free to download. New players get five scans, then five more after Apple or Google sign-in. Explorer includes up to 100 scans a month; all game features are also available free. Your local price and any eligible offer appear before purchase.

Does dobudex work offline?

Partly. You can open your Dex and scan without signal, as long as you have scans left. A scan you take offline is saved, and it is identified and becomes a card once you are back online. The very first start of the app needs a connection.

Is dobudex affiliated with Pokémon or Nintendo?

No. Pokémon and Pokédex describe the collecting idea. dobudex is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo, Creatures or GAME FREAK.
