The Pokédex for real animals

dobudex turns any animal you photograph into a collectible pixel-art card: its real species, six battle stats, a signature trait, and a rarity earned from how often the whole community has scanned it.

A dobudex card: a pixel-art Great Crested Grebe, Uncommon species, with six stats and the trait Elaborate Courtship Dance

A real scan — someone met a great crested grebe.

One scanner, the whole animal kingdom:
  • Birds
  • Insects
  • Mammals
  • Reptiles
  • Amphibians
  • Sea life
  • Pets

How it works

Three steps between “what is that?” and a card in your Dex.

  1. Scan

Point your camera at any animal — a pigeon, your cat, a bee on a flower — and lock in the shot.

  2. A finished dobudex creature card for an Asian Elephant with a six-stat hexagon and Uncommon rarity

    Identify

Vision AI names the species and builds the card in seconds: sprite, stats, trait, rarity.

  3. The Dex: a grid of collected pixel-art creatures organised by species

    Collect

Every catch lands in your Dex, organised by species. Then you go fill it out.

Every scan is a real card, not a photo filter

This house sparrow was scanned on an ordinary walk. Here’s everything its card carries.

A dobudex card for a House Sparrow showing species, rarity, six stat bars, a trait, a biology fact and a capture credit
  1. Real species, real tier Identified to species level, with the rarity tier printed in the header.
  2. A one-of-a-kind sprite Your animal, redrawn as collectible pixel art.
  3. Scientific ID & confidence The Latin name and how sure the AI is — low-confidence scans can be retried.
  4. A signature trait An ability-style tag, like Urban Scavenger Adaptation.
  5. Six battle stats HP, PWR, DEF, MOB, INT and STL, tuned to the species.
  6. A real biology fact Something true and worth repeating. Sparrows dust-bathe to fight parasites.
  7. Your capture credit Who caught it and when — your name, on the card.

Rarity is earned, not random

A species’ rarity is how often the whole dobudex community has scanned it — not a dice roll. The rarer the find, the more the card shows off.

  1. Common dobudex card: Domestic Cat, in a grey frame Common

Everywhere you look — sparrows, pigeons, your own cat.

  2. Uncommon dobudex card: Six-banded Armadillo, in a green frame Uncommon

A good walk usually turns one up.

  3. Rare dobudex card: African Lion cub, in a blue frame Rare

The find you text someone about.

  4. Very Rare dobudex card: breaching Humpback Whale, in a holographic purple frame Very Rare

Almost nobody has scanned one. Yet.

An honest comparison

vs Seek & iNaturalist

Those apps were built by naturalists to identify species accurately — and they’re free and excellent at it. dobudex identifies too, then turns the result into a game: stats, rarity, and a card worth collecting and sharing.

Reach for Seek as a field guide. Reach for dobudex to make a walk a collection run.

vs Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO has you catch fictional monsters layered onto a game map. In dobudex the creatures are the real animals actually around you — reimagined as pixel art with their own real stats.

No fantasy — just what’s out your door, made worth catching.

FAQ

Is there really a real-life Pokédex app?

Yes. It’s called dobudex, free on iPhone (Android is on its way). Point your camera at any animal and it becomes a collectible pixel-art creature card with the animal’s real species, stats, a signature trait, and a rarity.

What animals can it identify?

Any wild or domestic animal, identified at the species level — birds, insects, mammals, reptiles, sea life, and pets. Everyday animals absolutely count: a pigeon, a house sparrow, a bee, or your own cat.

How accurate is it?

dobudex identifies to species level (“Domestic Dog”, not a breed) using Vision AI with a confidence check. Low-confidence scans are saved and can be retried, so you never lose the moment.

Is dobudex free?

It’s free to download and try. After your free scans, an optional Explorer subscription keeps you scanning — but every game feature (the stats, rarity, traits, and your Dex) is identical on the free and paid tiers. The subscription only buys more scans.

Do I need an internet connection?

Yes. Each scan runs through cloud Vision AI, so you need to be online to scan an animal or retry a scan.

Is dobudex affiliated with Pokémon or Nintendo?

No. The word “Pokédex” is used only to describe what the app is like. dobudex is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo, Creatures, or GAME FREAK.
